We have a variety of ways that we are involved with our own community, as well as communities across the world. Review the programs below and let us know how you would like to be involved. We’d love to have you.
Intown Collaborative Ministries – Food Pantry: Haygood is a sponsoring congregation of the Intown Collaborative Ministries Food Pantry at Druid Hills UMC. Every Saturday food is distributed to residents of the 30306 & 30307 zip codes who are in need. You are asked to bring in canned soup, Ramen noodles, juice & powdered drink mix packages, snacks and other nonperishable items, and place them in the blue baskets at Haygood. You can also volunteer to work at the Food Pantry any Saturday (10:00am – 1:00pm). The Haygood Youth work at the Food Pantry on the 4th Saturday of every month. For more information about the ICM Food Pantry go to http://www.intowncm.org/programs/pantry/ and Click to volunteer the 4th Saturday of the month.
Habitat for Humanity: Haygood combines with five other churches to build an Atlanta Habitat for Humanity house each spring and fall. Beginning Feb. 27, 2016, for 7 Saturdays we will be constructing a home for a deserving family. Please devote a Saturday to making Atlanta a better place to live for ALL of us.Contact Wally Rice for more information.
Wesley Walk for Others: This event is an annual walk around Stone Mountain in the fall of each year to raise money for Wesley Community Centers in support of its mission to help “Senior Citizens live life more abundantly.” Click here for more information regarding Wesley Community Centers. Please contact Wally Rice for more information about this event. Haygood walkers have raised funds for Wesley Community Centers, Inc., Bethlehem Senior Center, Project S.O.A.R. and Project Extend.
Flood Buckets: We join together to assemble cleaning buckets to be used in disaster recovery and relief projects. The buckets are assembled by Haygood Families and then shipped to the United Methodist Committee on Relief for distribution as needed. Before we can assemble the buckets we gather the supplies.
Soles4Souls: Haygood collects new shoes to give relief to the victims of abject suffering and collects used shoes to support micro-business efforts to eradicate poverty. In support of Souls4Souls’ mission, Haygood Memorial UMC collects shoes (new & old) on an annual basis (usually in August). The shoes are then delivered to the Souls4Souls collection center. Click here for more details.
Operation Christmas Child: Every November Haygood families and individuals participate in Operation Christmas Child, sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse. Shoe boxes are filled with toiletries, school supplies and gifts for children. They are wrapped and labeled for a specific gender & age group. For more information, please contact Wally Rice or go online for more information about Samaritan’s Purse.
Angel Tree: For over several Haygood families and individuals have provided Christmas gifts for Morningside Elementary School students from financially disadvantaged families. The students are identified by the MES Counseling Office. Click here for more details.
Cold Weather Clothing Drive: Every fall the Haygood Missions Committee sponsors a warm clothing drive which culminates in a service event following Wednesday Night Supper in the Haygood Gym. We sort, fold and pack all the donated used and new clothing, before delivering it to the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children and the Intown Ministries Clothing Closet.
