We have new groups on Sunday Morning at Haygood beginning October 28th, 2018.
Pastor Will is leading one called, “Happy? What is and how to find it.” It’s a video study by Pastor Matt Miofsky which means you don’t need to do any homework. We’ll meet in the Fellowship Room located in the gym on the bottom floor.
Gary Fedota is also leading a new study on noted Christian Author Anne Lamott. Anne Lamott is a spiritual pundit who prays for redemption but brags about her offenses. Lamott’s latest tell-all is Grace (Eventually): Thoughts of Faith, a searching memoir full of offbeat spiritual humor. What makes Lamott’s writing powerful isn’t her unconventional faith. Rather, it’s the profound message about God’s grace and redemption often lurking underneath all the brutal honesty. This class meet in the parlor, next to the sanctuary.
Come check it out. You can read more below.
Happy? What it is and how to find it
We all dream of being happy. If we could just lose the extra weight, get the job, buy the house, we could truly be happy. But over time, it begins to seem as though lasting happiness is unattainable. Despite our best efforts, true happiness will never be a reality for us. So how do we find lasting happiness and contentment in our lives? Maybe the answer isn’t in our own lives at all.
Matt Miofsky connects the existential question, “Am I happy?”, with basic theology and unexpected biblical texts. Starting with the book of Ecclesiastes, considering if any “thing” can make us happy, he explores the value of relationships, a forgiving lifestyle, living in the present, feeling gratitude, and learning to release control.
